Q?

Have a Question regarding hiring a musician for your upcoming Florida wedding or special event

A.

Your Florida Wedding will be one of the most memorable events of your life and you want it to be perfect! Music can make or break a beautiful wedding ceremony, yet most brides haven’t a clue when it comes to planning this huge detail of the wedding.  Naturally, you have questions. As a harpist that has performed for literally thousands of weddings, I would like to share the most common questions I get asked about wedding music, along with important questions that don’t get asked.

Q?

Can I get my picture taken with you with the harp?

A.

Yes, absolutely!!! Couples often want to have their picture taken with the harp. But it is also lovely to have a picture of the two of you during the ceremony taken through the strings, with you in focus and the harp slightly out of focus. Make sure that you let your photographer know of your wishes.

Q?

Do I need to provide you with anything at the wedding ceremony?

A.

It is very helpful to have an order of ceremony, especially a written order of procession. The only thing you will need to provide is chairs without arms for the other musicians playing. I bring my own bench, unless it is a beach wedding; in that situation I would need a chair; the legs of the bench go right down into the sand. For outdoor events it’s nice to have a bottle of water too. If the ground is damp, then a rug would be required to place under the harp. It is always helpful to have someone assist me with the harp if I have to wheel it over terrain.

Q?

Q: Do you need a microphone?

A.

A: I have a battery-powered amplifier, so I can be positioned most anywhere. However, if you would like your videographer to arrange to have a “direct feed” into his video that would be fine.

Q?

Q. I am planning to have a beach wedding. Can you play the harp on the beach?

A.

A. Florida is an ideal place to have a Beach Wedding. I have a harp that I use specifically on the beach, but it is important for you to realize that if it is threatening rain I cannot risk the harp getting wet; it would ruin it.

Q?

Q: I’m planning an outdoor wedding. Will The Elegant Harp play outside?

A.

A: I do play for outdoor ceremonies, however due to the fragility of my instrument I have certain requirements. I must have shade and there can be no precipitation. Additionally, I cannot have our instruments in temperatures lower than 60 degrees or higher than 90 degrees.

Q?

Q: Do you attend the wedding dress rehearsal?

A.

A: I have found that it is not necessary for me to attend the wedding dress rehearsal. Dress rehearsals are mainly for the party to practice walking “in and out”, learning their placements and understanding the ceremony order. I am experienced in skillfully timing the music to the pace of those walking.

Q?

Q: Can The Elegant Harp stay after the Wedding Ceremony and play for the Wedding Cocktail Hour and Reception?

A.

A: Yes, I am often asked to continue playing as many brides would like the ambiance of harp music to continue through the cocktail hour and/or reception. The Elegant Harp also has a variety of “lighter classics” and popular music that would extend the mood and atmosphere of the wedding into the celebration time! I especially recommend it for the Cocktail Hour. And if you have a small guest list it is ideal for your Wedding Reception.

Q?

Q. I don’t know what music I want. Can you help me choose?

A.

A. Yes! There are lists here on my website here to get you started. I am happy to assist you during the consultation to help you choose music to fit the theme of your wedding.

Q?

Q: Can you play a piece if it is not currently part of your repertoire? I am having a difficult time finding ceremony music that really reflects who I am. Is it necessary that we play traditional, formal music for the processional?

A.

A:  Your ceremony music should reflect your personality.  Any of your favorite songs can be translated into an instrumental tune, surrounding you with your favorite music as you walk down the aisle.  Whether you want Bach or The Beatles, there is something to suit every mood! I have a huge repertoire, but I can play most any piece outside my repertoire if the sheet music can be found and is playable on the harp.  Any non-traditional music can also be played, as long as I am notified 1 month before your wedding date so that the music can be located and arranged. There is a $5 charge for each piece of music that I need to purchase to play.

Q?

Q. Can I have harp music played during the wedding ceremony?

A.

A. Bridal couples often have special songs they would like included in the wedding ceremony. I am also happy to play the harp quietly during your vows.

Q?

Q: When will the Wedding Processional music begin?

A.

A: We only need a simple cue from your wedding coordinator or a designated friend to signal that the Grandmothers/Mothers are ready to begin the formal processional. After the seating of the Grandmothers and Mothers, we play the bridal party’s processional and Bride’s processional in succession.

www.elegantharp.net/faq/q-when-will-the-wedding-processional-music-begin/" />

Q?

Q. How many musical pieces should be played for the wedding processional?

A.

A. I suggest one piece for the processional of the wedding party and a second piece for the processional of the bride. Sometimes different music is used for each group within the wedding party (rabbi/officiant, parents, groomsmen, groom, bridesmaids, matron of honor as well).

www.elegantharp.net/faq/q-how-many-musical-pieces-should-be-played-for-the-wedding-processional/" />

Q?

Q: What type of music do you recommend for the wedding prelude?

A.

A: The wedding prelude music creates the mood for your ceremony. I recommend Classical music. Some brides choose slower, calming melodies as the guests relax, while some brides choose faster, more upbeat pieces creating a sense of excitement and anticipation! Most commonly brides pick a variety of the two styles. Some brides do occasionally request popular songs that are meaningful to the couple, which I would ne happy to work with you to make it meaningful to both of you.

www.elegantharp.net/faq/q-what-type-of-music-do-you-recommend-for-the-wedding-prelude/" />

Q?

Q. Is music usually played before the wedding ceremony?

A.

A. You should plan on 30 minutes of prelude music before the wedding ceremony begins. The prelude music generally starts when the first guests are seated. The harp being played as guests are arriving and being seated creates a beautiful ambiance leading up to you wedding ceremony.

www.elegantharp.net/faq/q-is-music-usually-played-before-the-wedding-ceremony/" />

Q?

Q. How large a musical group do I need for my special event?

A.

A. The size of the musical group for your special event depends on your personal preferences as well as financial considerations. Solo harp is always appropriate for your special event, regardless of the size of the guest list. A Classical Trio, String Trio, or Quartet is appropriate for larger weddings. A Classical Trio with Harp/Flute/Cello. The flute blends well with the harp. A String Trio with Harp/violin/cello or String Quartet with Harp/2 violins/cello are also great options. If you request an ensemble I use only professional, experienced musicians who are used to the intricacies of playing ceremony music.

Q?

Q: Do we need to meet with you to discuss the music details?

A.

A: Most details can be worked out over the phone or by e-mail. But if it is convenient with you I love to meet with you in my studio to get to know you and discuss your music options.

www.elegantharp.net/faq/q-do-we-need-to-meet-with-you-to-discuss-the-music-details/" />

Q?

Q. What if you are already booked for the date and time of my wedding?

A.

Even if AnnaLisa and I are personally booked for a wedding on the day of your ceremony, I will provide you with other musicians for your wedding ceremony. I will continue to serve as a contact person between you and your musicians, even if I will not be playing for your ceremony. Don’t forget to provide the time and location when asking for availability. These two details often get left out of the initial contact, but are the most important. That is why it is very important that you book as soon as possible so that you are not disappointed. Often brides will miss the opportunity of having me play for their wedding by delaying booking by one or 2 days. Remember other couples are making decisions for their wedding as well.

Q: How do I arrange for The Elegant Harp to play the harp at my Florida Wedding Ceremony?

A.

A: You can either fill out the contact page of the website or call me directly at 561.702.4277 to check my availability. I need to know the date, time, and location of your wedding. If I am available I will send you a contract. In order to reserve your date and time I require a deposit as well as a signed contract. I cannot be committed to your date and time until I have received the signed contract and deposit. The balance will be due 1 week prior to your wedding date.
